For this Saturday’s Progressive record we have another Krautrock band, Ash Ra Tempel. This was recorded in 1971 in Hamburg, Germany and was the first release from them. This is a 2004 import from France on the Spalax label. Just two instrumental tracks on here. “Amboss (20 minutes) is a long fast paced jam with guitar bass and drums with some electronics in a couple spots by guitarist Manuel Gottsching and drummer Klaus Schulze. Hartmut Enke plays the bass. “Traummaschine” (25 minutes) is a slower, more Ambient piece with more electronics with guitar emerging near the end. More interesting than “Amboss” this has some really spacey moments. Schulze, who had played on Tangerine Dream’s first release left after this recording for solo work but returned to play on their fourth release Join in from 1973 that I used to have on a double cassette with Starring Rossi the last release. Gottsching also went solo recording under the name Ashra. I have Ash Ra Tempel’s second album to listen to at a later date.
