Drive-By Truckers-Welcome 2 Club XIII

Th latest album from the Truckers this came out in 2022. This music is autobiographical with songs about playing in a club in Alabama when they were known as Adams House Cat, and Patterson Hood’s younger days. Thankfully there are no political rants like there were on their last three records that turned many fans, like myself, off. Their last record, 2020’s The New OK with BLM on the cover ,was the only record of theirs I didn’t buy when it came out. I did buy it last year at FYE where I found it on sale for $5. I doubt if I will listen to it but I do have almost all of their records so I thought what the heck. There are good songs on this record. “The Driver” is one of Hood’s story songs with him speaking as well as singing. Seems to be about an incident that happened while Hood and Cooley were driving somewhere. “Shake And Pine adds some harmonica and fiddle. Side to has more songs of Hood’s reminiscing, the title track, “Forged In Hell And Heaven Sent”, “Billy Ringo In The Dark” and “Wilder Days” which is on my playlist. Also on there is one of Mike Cooley’s two songs “Every Single Storied Flameout” with horns at the end. It comes with a four page booklet with lyrics and Hood’s musings on playing at the club. Looking forward to the next record but with Trump president again Hood probably can’t resist more political songs. We will see whether I buy it or not. I do have a 3 record live album to listen to yet. It’s kind of a bootleg that had a more official release recently. I will be getting to that one sometime.
