Well now I will listen to some live albums that will take about a week. I will start with this one by The Drive-By Truckers. Looks like I missed the 20th anniversary of this show by five days. Recorded on July 13 2006 at Plan 9 record store in Richmond Va. A benefit concert for the Richard and Kathryn Harvey Foundation. They were killed along with their two daughters on New Years Day 2006 as part of a crime spree. According to Paterson Hood’s liner notes they were paid a case of beer and two bottles of whiskey that were gone before the end of the show. This was one of the last shows with Jason Isbell as he left shortly after this. His wife at the time Shonna Tucker stayed in the band for a few more years before she left. This was the line-up when I first saw them in 2004 at a club in Lancaster. Originally released looking like a bootleg with different colored paper pasted on the cover and selling for over $50 dollars in 2020 it was too expensive for me. In 2021 New West Records re-issued this 3 record set with a better cover, on purple translucent vinyl. This Wes Freed cover is on a T-shirt I bought at one of their shows. I ordered this directly from New West Records and it was a little over $30. The recording still sounds like a bootleg but after listening to it for a while it sounds OK. At over 2 hours they play songs from their six albums released up to that point and a cover of “Moonlight Mile” from Sticky Fingers. Thought mostly Patterson Hood songs Mike Cooley and Jason Isbell sing a couple of their songs they wrote for the band. I have seen them 6 times but not lately and I enjoyed listening to all six sides.
