The Beatles-Past Masters

A compilation album released on CD in 1998 and a double vinyl album in 2012. This is one I bought at Barnes & Noble. Singles (both A and B sides) and a couple rarities, all that never made it on an album released in the U.K. Some were released on the U.S, versions of the record others had different versions on the U.K. release. The first record of songs recorded from 1962 to’65 includes “She Loves You” and “I Want To Hold Your Hand” two of the earliest songs I remember hearing on the radio. The German versions are also on here. “Love Me Do” is another great song recorded in 1962. Love the harmony on “This Boy” and the similar sounding “Yes It Is” the B-side of the “Ticket To Ride” single. Most of the second record is on their U.S. release of non album songs I bought over 50 years ago that I call Hey Jude. This version of “Across The Universe” was released as part of a benefit album for the World Wildlife Fund and contains nature sounds at the beginning and end. “You Know My Name ( Look Up The Number)” was the B-side of the “Let It Be” single and is a comical parody of lounge singers. It was nice to have some of their early songs on record and although I had most of the songs on record two on the Hey Jude record that one is fifty plus years old The gatefold album comes with a 4 page insert with photos and liner notes by Mark Lewishon describing each song in great detail.
