The first album from this Scottish Post Rock band. I have three of their later records and I bought their first two last year. This is a 2023 remastered reissue on blue vinyl. First time listening I found it quite enjoyable. As with most Post Rock bands there are dynamic shifts from quiet moody sections to loud heavy riffing with guitar, bass and drums. This is most exemplified by “Yes, I Am A Long Way From Home” and “Like Herod” and “Katrien”. I noticed some backward speaking on “Like Herod” and when I played it in reverse it was someone talking about a sexual experience in graphic detail. “Tracey” is quiet and atmospheric throughout it’s 7 minute length and features glockenspiel and a phone conversation between band members in the background. “Katrien” also has speaking in the background. “Radar Maker” is a short piano solo. The best track on here is the 16 minute “Mogwai Fear Satan” adding flute to the mix. It’s a decent pressing not too many pops in the quiet parts.
