This is a record I found while cleaning out my parents house after they sold it. I don’t remember ever seeing it before and don’t know where it came from. It’s made by The National Geographic Society and has a 1972 copyright date. There is a ten page booklet inside with color pictures of people of the Ozarks and the origin of each song and lyrics. It’s a pretty cool record of Bluegrass and Folk music. Since I go to a Bluegrass festival in North Carolina whenever I can the music was enjoyable to me. The most well know artists on this record is Jimmy Driftwood who wrote “The Battle Of New Orleans” and the liner notes for the record. Most of the songs were recorded by amateurs. “Bright Morning Stars” is sung by the Simmons Family in three par harmony sounding really nice and Guitar Medley is also very good. “Arkansas Traveler” was recorded at a barn dance and you can hear people stomping their feet. The record and the quality of the recordings is very good.
