Grateful Dead-The Music Never Stopped

The newest compilation of live recordings spanning their years of playing. I had another compilation on a 5 CD set called So Many Roads. This 6 record vinyl box set came out last year and these songs were culled from a 60 CD set containing 17 complete shows from different venues. Another nice set with great recordings and pressings. It comes with an 8 page booklet with drawings of the 20 venues these songs were taken from with commentary on each. I decided to listen to records 1 3 and 6 tonight. The first song on record 1 is “The Music Never Stopped” recorded at The Spectrum in Philly in 1978. According to the notes the Grateful Dead played there 53 times, more than any other artist. I never saw any of those shows but my friend and I went to a show they played there in the summer of 1980 to hang out in the parking lot with all the deadheads. An unlikely incident arose that night after buying some acid from a guy in the parking lot. Ask me about it if you want to know. The other side of record 1 is an awesome “Playing In The Band” lasting 20 minutes from 1973. Record 3 contains a 30 minute suite of “Scarlet Begonias>Touch Of Grey>Fire On The Mountain” on sides E and F from U.C. Berkeley in 1984. Closing out side F is “Lazy Lightning>Supplication” from 1980. Record 6 has Two newer songs on side K with “Black Muddy River” from 1989 and “Days Between” from 1993. The last side of this set contains “Not Fade Away>Going Down The Road Feeling Bad>Not Fade Away” recorded at the Capital Theatre 3 days after the recording of Three From The Vault. A good selection of songs but as the liner notes from So Many Roads said “there is not enough Pigpen” and that is the same with this set with only 2 tracks featuring him singing on “Hard To Handle” and “Doin’ That Rag” the only song from the 60’s on here. That’s the last Grateful Dead music I have unless I happen to but more.
