Robert Randolph-Live At The Wetlands

Some great Jam Band music from Robert and his family band. Recorded at The wetlands in N.Y.C. just weeks before it’s closing in 2001. With brother Marcus on drums, Danyel Morgan on bass and Jam Band veteran John Ginty on Hammond organ they jam on 6 tracks lasting 70 minutes. When I think of the pedal steel guitar I think of Country music but Randolph plays this like a slide guitar sounding like Duane Allman or Derick Trucks. Starting with the 13 minute instrumental “Ted’s Jam” with pedal steel guitar, bass and drums it is followed by another “The March” bringing in the organ. This is followed by “Pressing My Way” a Blues with vocals, “Shake Your Hips” a 60’s Blues song by Slim Harpo, and “I Don’t Know What You Came To Do” another with vocals with some soloing on bass, and drums. The last track is another instrumental “Tears Of Joy” with some nice mellow moments. Some amazing playing by Randolph throughout. I saw them at either Bonnaroo or one of the Merlefests I attended, I can’t remember which.
