Another old Jazz record, this one is from 1971. Also in like new condition with a glossy cover possibly owned by the same person who had yesterday’s record and probably from the Vinyl Closet store. Both have this glossy film on the front and this one is wrapped around the back cover for about an eight of an inch. The other record being a gatefold the film is on the front and back and wrapped around the inside. I have several Atlantic records from this period and none have this film. Maybe it was something Atlantic did with their Jazz records or something applied after the record was bought. Anyhow this is a quintet with Burton playing vibes and Jarrett piano and sax on the last track, plus guitar , bass and drums. The first track “Grow Your Own” is the best being a more Rock sounding composition with some tasty guitar from Sam Brown. “Como En Vietnam”, written by bassist Steve Swallow (the other four are Jarrett compositions) has a Latin flavor to it. The other three are more traditional Jazz tunes with lots of dueling piano and vibes. Jarrett, my favorite Jazz keyboardist, suffered two strokes in 2018 leaving him partially paralyzed and unable to play. Unlike another keyboard player named Keith who took his own life when he couldn’t play anymore Jarrett has been dealing with it since then.
