A Record Store Day release from 2021. From October of 1971, 15 months before their first record was released. Comes with an insert with extensive liner notes by David Fricke. He explains that this 40 minute reel to reel tape was lost for fifty years. No one in the band can remember where it was recorded or the circumstances of why it was recorded. You can hear people talking on “Intro/Somebody” but the rest of the recording is silent. The playing and singing and the sound in general is rough but not too bad. Most of these songs ended up on their first record playing “Mama Kin”, “Movin’ Out”, “Dream On”, “Somebody” and “Walking The Dog” with Steven Tyler playing some kind of flute or recorder. “Reefer Headed Woman” is a slow Blues from the 30’s that would appear on 1979’s Night In The Ruts. “Major Barbara” is one that never made it on a record. The pressing itself is good. I have 5 more Aerosmith records to listen to and write a blog.
