The Atlanta Rhythm Section was formed in 1970. Guitarist J.R. Cobb and keyboard player Dean Daughtry had been in the band Classics IV who had the hit “Spooky” in 1967, co-written by Cobb and Buddy Buie who adds some vocals to this record and is co-writer of all these songs. A Southern Rock Boogie Band this was recorded in 1977 and is dedicated to the members of Lynyrd Skynyrd who died in the plane crash that year. I bought this record in early ’78 when it was released. Mostly played side two with four really good songs but the first two on side one “Large Time” and “I’m Not Gonna Let It Bother Me Tonight”, the second single from the album are pretty good too. “Imaginary Lover” was a top 10 hit in 1978 and one I always liked especially the fadeout that was on the longer album cut. There is a story that a radio station played the song on the wrong speed and people thought it was a Stevie Nicks song. Nicks bought the record and played it at 45 rpm and agreed it sounded like her. After trying that I agree, it sounds like a Fleetwood Mac song with Nicks singing. “The Ballad Of Lois Malone”, a Southern Blues, and “The Great Escape” are also songs I liked. The last song “Evileen” has some organ that reminds me of Fleetwood Mac’s “Brown Eyes”. A fairly short record (only 33 minutes) and it still sounds good. Another one listened to in the first months of this countdown before the blog. I had originally decided to end this at the end of this year but I thought what the heck lets try to make it to March 31st making 7 years of listening to a record or CD. If I listen to all the A’s that weren’t on the blog and all new records bought in the last five or six years I might be able to do it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
