A band from Chicago it was formed by Rick Rizzo and Janet Beveridge Bean in 1983. Douglass McCombs plays bass and Matthew O’Bannon is the guitarist along with Rizzo. Rizzo and Bean, the drummer provide vocals. A good CD, from 1993with a variety of music styles. “Makin’ Like A Rug” and “Bend Bridge” are Punk. “After This Time Is Gone” is some good Jangle Pop. “Honeyslide” and “Rubberband” are more in the Alternative style. “The Raft” has some Neil Young style guitar while “That’s The Point” is some 70’s Rock. I have another of their CDs, a rather short one at under 40 minutes so I decided to put that one on also. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eighth is their eighth release from 1997. Reduced to a trio of Rizzo, Bean and McCombs this is quite different from El Moodio. I like this one better. No Punk on this one. They have mellowed out with a couple of instrumentals. By this time Bean was playing in the Alt-Country band Freakwater and McCombs was in the band Tortoise. Produced by John McEntire also from Tortoise these songs favor the Electronica, Post Rock and Jazz leanings of that band. “For A King”, “Insomnia” and “Motion Sickness” were all good. The instrumental “View From The Rim” sounds very familiar to me. Very much like Stereolab. Not on my playlist but possibly on one of my cassette mix tapes. Both of these CDs are ones I want to listen to again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
