Sufjan Stevens is a multi-instrumentalist musician from Michigan who started recording in the late 90’s. Another guy who sings in a rather high voice. This is an EP he released in 2010. Although called an EP it is 59 minutes in length, longer than most long play records. It’s a two record gatefold cover on heavy cardboard. The collage of faces is also on the back cover and inside. It’s fun to look at them and see if you recognize any of them. I think I see Jimmy Carter and Brad Pitt on the inside. There are two versions of the single “All Delighted People” which borrows lines from Simon & Garfunkel’s “Sounds Of Silence”. The 11 minute Original version has lots of strings while the 8 minute Classic Rock version is one I heard on the radio. “Enchanting Ghost” is an acoustic number and “The Owl And The Tanager” has some nice moments. The best is side three with another acoustic song “Heirloom” and a 17 minute piece called “Djoharaih” Starting with some guitar and some Oooo’s in the background it made me think of Zappa’s “Black Napkins” ,then a repeated phrase I can’t understand, before some lyrics towards the end. An interesting composition. Side four has about 18 minutes of piano solos from the soundtrack of a movie directed by Natilie Portman. Not sure why I bought this record, I don’t like the “All Delighted People” songs but the rest is worthwhile. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
