The first album from this band came out in late ’67 and was an original record I bought when still living at home. It was a cutout I paid 29 cents for. I never liked it very much and got rid of it early on. This two record set from The Collector Series is one I bought in the 80’s. They put out three or four records and broke up in 1970. Keyboardist Keith Emerson then joined Emerson Lake & Palmer. With his keyboards dominating they sound very much like E.L.P. on many of the tracks. Three songs are from the first record with David O’List on guitar and is featured on one of their best known songs “Rondo” a re-working of Dave Brubeck’s “Blue Rondo A La Turk”. Like E.L.P. they used classical themes such as “Intermezzo From Karellia” a symphony by Sibelius,one of the tracks I liked. Mostly instrumental there are some vocals by Lee Jackson on “Happy Frueds” “Little Arabella” and a cover of Tim Harden’s “Hang On To A Dream”. “America” adapted from West Side Story is also one of their better known songs. “Angel Of Death” is the song I like most from this collection. Side four is a 19 minute suite called “Ars Longa Vita Brevis” with orchestration and some parts from Bach.
