Not quite as rocking as that record it&#8217;s a little more soulful. Cooley&#8217;s songs are all acoustic and not his best. Some of Hood&#8217;s songs are even a bit uplifting like &#8220;Mercy Buckets&#8221; the last song on the record. The rest are the usual dark songs like &#8220;Ray&#8217;s Automatic Weapon&#8221; and &#8220;The Thanksgiving Filter&#8221;. Two of the songs &#8220;Go-Go Boots&#8221; and &#8220;The Fireplace Poker&#8221; seem to be the same story,a preacher having his wife killed,as is &#8220;The Wig He Made Her Wear&#8221; from The Big To-Do. &#8220;I Used To Be A Cop&#8221; one of his best songs is the only Trucker song I have ever heard on the radio. The record is also a tribute of sorts to Eddie Hinton. As Patterson relates in the liner notes Hinton was a Muscle Shoals musician and good friend of his father David,that Patersn met when he was a kid. They cover two of his songs &#8220;Everybody Needs Love&#8221; and &#8220;Where&#8217;s Eddie&#8221; a semi hit for Lulu in 1969 that Shonna sings lead on.
