Last year I was looking on Amazon to see if I could find a vinyl release of their album Afrodisiac from 1994. It’s one I had on cassette and really liked it. No release on vinyl yet but I did see this record that had three songs from that album on it so I ordered it. This is a 2024 release on pink swirl vinyl. After some research I learned this was the first music they recorded around 1989 but their record company did not release it instead putting out the EP Marigolds in 1992. Robin Guthrie of The Cocteau Twins remastered this record and it was released in 2023. The other twin Elizabeth Fraser adds background vocals to “Aroura Borealis”. There are three songs from that EP on here as well. They are “CCCP”, “Pleasure Toy” and “Willow Tree”. ” The cover immediately made me think of the Cure’s disintegration album that has a very similar cover. A really good album of Shoegaze music but twin brothers Daniel and Danny Chavis bring a little Soul to the sound. I like all the songs on the record. The three that were on Afrodisiac, “It’s Over”, “Heather”, and “Daisy Chain” are early versions, just a little different. The soulful “Angel Heart” was one I thought was really good. Last year I found the Afrodisiac album on UTube and was able to record it on a cassette. I put it on after listening to this. It sounded really good.
