The Bevis Frond-Sprawl

You always know what you’re going to get with a Bevis Frond album, great Psychedelic Rock with lots of guitar solos, many fuzz toned. This does not disappoint. From 1994 this is another 2016 reissue. This omits 8 songs from the original double CD but adds the 21 minute “Right On (Hippie Dream)”. Again most instruments played by Nick Saloman. Andy Ward of Camel plays drums on many tracks. The best songs on side one are “Awake!” a 12 minute song with a long jam at the end, “Innerwheel” a Gothic sounding instrumental and “41” a song about aging. Saloman turned 41 at the time of this recording. “The Puller” on side two is a 9 minute song with Tony Aldridge playing some violin. A nice touch. Side three has the afore mentioned “Right On (Hippie Dream)”. A more mellow song with plenty of flute by Jimmy Hastings, drums by Andy Ward and more violin by Aldridge. There are occasional readings from something called Gandalf’s Garden no. 1. A real Psychedelic and spacey track. “I bought My Love A Lapdog” on side four is another good one sounding more Alternative or Grunge.
