The Cars-Shake It Up

Their fourth album from 1981. Very 80’s sounding with lots of drum machine and synthesizers. The title track was the first top 10 hit for the band. I bought a used copy of this record sometime in the 90’s. I remember listening to it one day in the front room at the hose I was renting in Bally. An addition was added to this old house for a doctor’s office, This front room was a waiting room with a small bathroom. down a short hall was a large handicap bathroom and another large room where the doctors office was. The room was only about 10 feet from rt. 100 with windows across the front. It was a nice place to listen to music and watch the traffic on 100. It was shortly after listening to this record there when I had my big sell-off to raise money for a new place to rent because the owner of the house was converting it to two apartments and we had to move out. Anyway this version I have now is a 2018 two record edition on red vinyl. This was the only record recorded at the band’s own studio in Boston. The two record sleeves have lyrics on one and extensive liner notes by David Fricke and drummer David Robinson on the other. It was nice listening to a record I could sing or hum to every song. Always thought “Cruiser”, “Think It Over” and “Maybe Baby” were the best songs. The second record has early versions of some of the songs. Also an early version of a song that would appear on their next record. The highlight of this second record is a cover of “The Little Black Egg” a minor Garage Rock hit from 1967 by Florida band The Nightcrawlers.
