Although this one might be saved for a Saturday night Progressive album, I felt like listening to this one tonight. The 6th album from Can and the first as a quartet since vocalist Damo Suzuki left. Most of these songs have vocals by either Micheal Karoli or Irmin Schmidt but they are more talking than singing and are mostly in the background. The first two tracks are Can’s first forays into World Music with “Dizzy Dizzy” having a Reggae or Ska beat and “Come Sta, La Lune” having a Latin flavor. “Splash” is an instrumental with something that sounds like a saxophone, either a keyboard or a treated violin. The two tracks on side two are the best. Both percussion oriented, the first, “Chain Reaction”, is very fast paced. David Fricke calls it galloping in the liner notes and that is an apt description. “Quantum Physics” has a slower Ambient sound. The last of their good records. I do have a live album of theirs I have yet to listen to.
