A record I bought at Barnes & Noble in late 2016. Not knowing if this was a band or a person I thought the cover was interesting, so I bought it. Turns out Aurora is Aurora Aksnes a Norwegian singer/songwriter. The music is Synth Pop/Dance with a bit of Norwegian Folk music mixed in. The music reminded me of Cvrches and other bands like that. Her distinctive voice is a mix of Bjork and Dolores O’Riordan. Another record listened to in June of 2019 just days before my blog. I had listened to side one a few times before that. I found the songs to be catchy with good beats and Aurora’s wonderful voice. 7 singles were released from the record. It won album of the year in Norway and best video for “I Went Too Far” One of the singles “Running With The Wolves” is on my playlist. “I Went Too Far” with it’s infectious chorus will go on there today. “Winter Bird” is another good one with a Nordic Folk sound. Side two I had not listened to before and it has some good songs too. “Through The Eyes Of a Child”, another single, is a ballad with piano and Aurora’s voice. “Murder Song” was another one that sounded good. The final 2 tracks “Under The Water” and “Black Water Lillies” have subject matter dealing with drowning. She has put out four more records since this one, her first. I have never seen any of them but would consider buying one if I did.
