Jam band Friday already! These two from Gov’t Mule are ones I have not heard yet. These songs were recorded over two nights at the Capital Theatre in Port Chester, New Jersey in April of 2018, marking 25 years as a band. Originally released as a double CD and DVD some limited edition vinyl records came out in 2019. Only 1000 copies of these records were made in 3 volumes. I was able to buy volumes 2 and 3 about three years ago at the store near Oaks but have not found volume 1. Warren Haynes had joined the Allman Brothers in the late 80’s and was there till the end. He formed Gov’t Mule in ’93 with Matt Abbs and Allen Woody who was also in the Allman Brothers at the time. Woody died in 2000 from a heroin overdose and was replaced by many different bass players. Later they added a keyboard player. Volume 2 is a 2 record set volume 3 is a single record. These records have a different running order and different tracks than the CDs. Looks like some songs are from the CVD and weren’t on the CDs. Side one of volume 2 has a nice long “Thorazine Shuffle” with some excellent jamming followed by “Mule”. “Broke Down In The Brazos”, “Forsaken Savior” and “Bring On The Music” were some of the best on Vol 2. Volume 3 has six songs, including the instrumental Trane edited down from 17 minutes on the CD. There are no running times on these records. The record ends with “Funny Little Tragedy>Message In A Bottle>Funny Little Tragedy”. Lots of good jams on guitar and keyboards on all 3 records. Would like to find Vol. 1 sometime.
