This release, simply titled The Cult came out in 1994. Another one I had on cassette. This vinyl reissue was released in 2023. Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy are joined by a drummer and bass player pretty much different on every record. This is one I’m familiar with having played it in my car on many occasions. Some of the best songs on here are “Coming Down (Drug Tongue), “Real Grrrl”, “Naturally High”, “Sacred Life”, and “Universal You”. “Sacred Life” names Abie Hoffman, River Pheonix, Andrew Wood and Kurt Cobain in the lyrics. All had died by drug overdoses or suicide in the five years before the records release. It’s always been my favorite song on the record.
