London natives Alex Paterson and Jim Cauty formed the Orb in 1998. Cauty left in 1990 to concentrate on KLF, his other project. Paterson continued on with Kris Weston and Thomas Fehlmann. Steve Hillage was also involved in some of their recordings. This 2 disc live CD showcases their Ambient, Electronic and Dub music with a heavy use of found sounds and sampling. A great CD, the music is never too repetitive, always changing. Much of it is Psychedelic and trippy especially “Star 6 & 7 8 9” and “Spanish Castles In Space” recorded at the Glastonbury Festival in June of ’93. “A Huge Ever Growing Pulsating Brain That Rules From The Center Of The Ultraworld”, recorded in Copenhagen, features samples of Minnie Riperton’s “Loving You” which they got in trouble for. They used samples of Rikki Lee Jones’s voice on “Little Fluffy Clouds” from a Tokyo show from July Of ’93. Really great stuff and I was chillin’ for all 140 minutes of the two CDs.
