Going through a stack of records that are in another room in my basement I came across this record. These records are ones in too bad shape to trade in or ones I didn’t like or some I bought just to put one song on my playlist. These will probably be trashed. I don’t even remember where I got this record. There is a price tag on it that says $1.50. Recorded over 4 nights at the Fillmore East in June of 1970 and released that year. There are four tracks on here ranging from 22 minutes to 28 minutes. The titles are simply “Wednesday Miles”, “Thursday Miles, “Friday Miles” and “Saturday Miles”. Later reissues broke the four sides into three to five sections with actual titles from former recordings. The band is as follows: Chick Corea on electric piano Keith Jarrett on organ Steve Grossman on sax, Jack DeJohnette on drums Dave Holland on bass and Arito Moreira on a variety of ethnic percussion including a fridigeria, a queixada, a reco-reco and a cuica as well as wood blocks, bells and shakers. The playing seems a bit disorganized with everyone seemingly playing at once. They get a good groove going for five or six minutes than change to something more mellow and quiet. No guitar but one of the keyboards makes a guitar like sound. Other parts have a weird electronic sound like one of Grateful Dead’s “Space” improvisations. Obviously edited from longer jams each night, I found all four tracks interesting but somewhat meandering. The cover is in poor shape but the records don’t sound too bad just some scratchyness from being played many times by the previous owner. I found some other records in this pile I might give a listen to.
