The Allman Brothers-At Fillmore East

A classic for tonight! Recorded over two nights at the Filmore East in March of 1971 and released later that year, the one I have is the 1974 reissue on Capricorn Records. I bought this sometime in the mid 70’s. This is another record owned by my friends older brother that we listened to back in high school. We always put on side one with three great blues songs, “Statesboro Blues”, “Done Somebody Wrong” and “Stormy Monday”. Sides two and four have awesome long jams of “You Don’t Love Me” (19 minutes) and “Whipping Post” (22 minutes). Near the end of “Whipping Post” you might think you are listening to The Grateful Dead who have the same line-up of two guitarists, two drummers, bass and keyboards. Side three has the two instrumentals “Hot ‘Lanta” and “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed”. Amazing guitar solos on every track by Duane and Dicky. I’m not familiar enough to tell them apart but both are incredible with Gregg’s organ playing a part also. One of the best early 70’s double live albums, right up there with Humble Pie’s Rockin’ The Fillmore and Derek & The Dominoes live album. The cover is not in good shape but the two records sound fine.
