The fourth album from Nick Saloman and the first recorded in a proper studio. The others were recorded in his bedroom. This is a 2016 reissue on Fire Records who have reissued most of his records. A bonus record is included with 4 live performances in Copenhagen in 1990 and 2 jams recorded in ’88. As Saloman explains in his liner notes written in 2016 the name of the album comes from an ad he wrote for Air Products working for an ad company when he was 18. These songs are the typical Bevis Frond Psychedelic/Rock songs with lots of fuzz guitar. I have played side one before and liked “Ear Song”, “Then You Wanted Me” and the acoustic “This Corner Of England”. On side two I liked “These Dark Days”, another acoustic number with Nick playing guitar and sitar, “Head On A Pole” and “Olde World”. The live tracks were recorded with frequent collaborators drummer Martin Crowley and bassist Ade Shaw with Rod Goodway a veteran of many Psychedelic bands. “Medieval Sianese Acid Blues” features some great blues guitar. “Radio Bloodbeast” is another good one with about 2 minutes of feedback at the beginning. “The Miskatonic Variations” on side four is a 17 minute Psychedelic Jam with a five piece band including organ and sax making it sound like Hawkwind in places. “Long Journey Into Night” is another long jam with Nick Saloman playing everything. I have bought 5 Bevis Frond albums since listening to the B’s in 2019. This is the first of them.
