This seems to be the second and last release from this band from Louisiana led by Jeff Magnum. This was released in 1998. I have seen this record at many record stores and have seen some positive reviews. The record almost seems to have a cult following. Last month I decided to pick it up, it was only $18, and see what all the fuss was about. It’s some kind of lo-fi acoustic Folk music. I didn’t like any of the songs or Magnum’s voice. There are some odd instruments on this record but they don’t add anything interesting to it. Some people seem to be obsessed with his lyrics. I’m much more intrested in the music and the sound of someone’s voice than I am in trying to decide what someone’s lyrics may be about. Most of the time if they’re not printed I can’t understand them anyway. After all the acclaim of this record Magnum became a bit of a recluse and there has been no new music from him. Don’t know what all the hubbub is about this this is one that will be traded in.
