Miles Davis-Early Minor

In 2001 Colombia records released a 3 disc CD collection of The Complete In A Silent Way Sessions. They also released a 5 record set at the same time. On Black Friday Record Store Day in 2019 they put out this single LP with three unreleased tracks from that box set. That is when I bought this record. This music was recorded between late ’68 and early ’69. All three tracks employ three keyboard players, Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock on electric piano and Joe Zawinul on organ. Dave Holland plays the bass and Wayne Shorter is on sax and of course Miles plays the trumpet. Tony Williams plays drums on the two tracks on side one “Splashdown” with frantic drumming and the more subdued “Early Minor” which features Shorter’s sax. “The Ghetto Walk” on side 2 is nearly 27 minutes long with John McLaughlin adding some rocking electric guitar in 2 sections. These compositions are a transition from his Jazz quintet from the mid to late 60’s to his Jazz Rock Fusion from 1969 to 1975. I have 5 records from this period to listen to yet.
