Lunatic souls is a side project of Polish musician Mariusz Duda who is the bass player and singer of Riverside. This is album number 8 and was just released last month. I bought this two weeks ago and was saving it for Progressive Saturday Night. On two records it’s a full 89 and a half minutes long. This is definitely modern Progressive, No 70’s throwback music here! Duda plays everything except drums, sax and a guitar solo on one track. Sounding a bit like Porcupine Tree there is plenty of piano, keyboards, samples, bass and electronic percussion. Most guitars are acoustic. Most of these tracks have a melancholy and atmospheric sound. I really like what I’m hearing. What stuck out to me was “Good Memories Don’t Want To Die”, an acoustic number, and the three longer tracks “Mind Obscured, Heart Eclipsed” and “Game Called Life” and “Self In Distorted Glass”. Another one I want to listen to again and maybe check out some of their older records.
