Captain Beyond-Lost And Found

This is a 2022 Record Store Day reissue of a 2017 release on gold splatter vinyl. This is a collection of demos the band shopped around for a record contract. Another very short record, this one is less than 30 minutes. The original line-up included original Deep Purple singer Rod Evans, drummer Bobby Caldwell, later in Armageddon, and Iron Butterfly members Lee Dorman and Rhino. According to the liner notes they played these demos for Duane and Gregg Allman who liked them and got them signed to the Capricorn label, known more for Southern Rock acts. There is one song to never appear on a record, the oddly named Uranus Highway. “Icarus” is one that appeared on their final album Dawn Explosion in 1977 with a new singer .That is one I have and is the best of their three records. This earlier version with Evans singing is not nearly as good. The final tracks were on their first record including the 10 minute suite in 5 parts “I Can Feel Nothing”. I had that record as well as their second but didn’t like them much. Can’t remember if these demos sounded much different. This record has some Ok moments of Psychedelic Space rock but nothing outstanding but I think I will keep this record.
