Argent-Argent

This is their first album released in January of 1970. Much of it still has that 60’s Zombies sound. I always loved side one so I played side 2 first saving the best for last. Those five songs are OK but i rarely listened to that side. Side one on the other hand has five great songs, “Like Honey” has a nice little intro with some good vocals by Argent. “Liar” by Russ Ballard is a great rocker and was a top 10 hit for Three Dog Night. English band Capability Brown also covered it. “Be Free” reminds me of Uriah Heep a bit, “Schoolgirl” sounds like it could have been a Zombies hit. The final song on side one “Dance In The Smoke” is one I recorded off the radio in early ’71. I would listen to the radio with my portable tape recorder with the microphone between the headphones. If I heard the beginning of a song I liked I would tape it. If I decided I didn’t like it I would erase it. “Dance In The Smoke” is one I recorded then. It was one of my “mystery” songs that I didn’t know the artist until a couple years later when I bought the record. It’s the most Progressive song on the record with good harmony vocals and the most organ played on the record. There are still a couple “mystery” songs from that period I have yet to identify. Although those tapes are long gone I still remember parts of those songs. I have heard many albums from that period but have yet to hear them.
