The B-52’s-Live 8/24/ 1989

Loved the song “Rock Lobster” when I first heard it in early ’79 with its infectious Surf Rock sound and bass line. I had several B-52’s records but sold some and by the time I got to the B’s just days before starting this blog I had Whammy! and Cosmic Thing to listen to, both great records. This early live recording is from a show in Boston. The record was released on Record Store Day 2015 and is on gold vinyl. I bought this much later, probably sometime in 2021 from a bin of Record Store Day leftovers that most record stores have. “Rock Lobster” is the best song on here and most of the others have that same sound. “Private Idaho” and “Dance This Mess Around” are also two of my favorites by them. Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson harmonize good together with Fred Schneider’s odd voice. Cindy’s brother Ricky plays guitar, all simple chords, no soloing and Kieth Strickland plays the drums. It’s a good sounding recording although the record has a couple bad spots.
