Looking back at the two Cult records I listened to in 2000 I had written that I was looking for their Love album. I found a new remastered album a couple of years ago. Originally purchased in 1985 when it came out. The first song I heard by The Cult was the video for “She Sells Sanctuary” on MTV when I was living in Hull. Every day driving to work I would drive past Nantasket Beach that was at the end of the long leg of the L-shaped peninsula. Very busy in the summertime, dead in the winter. Most everything there was closed then but a couple bars were open all year. One was the Franklin Hotel where I would stop after work on second shift sometimes in the Winter. Way too crowded in the Summer. Enough reminiscing, back to the record. I sold this one in 2013. My favorite Cult album I was happy to find this reissue. Every song here is good, some great. Still with bassist Jamie Stewart from the Death Cult days they employ Mark Brzezicki from Big Country on drums. Still with some of Death Cult’s Gothic sound especially on “Big Neon Glitter” and “Black Angel”. The great songs on my playlist are “Hollow Man”, “Revolution”, “She Sells Sanctuary”, “Black Angel” and “Phoenix”, the whole of side two, and “Nirvana” and “Rain” on side one.
