Karl Wallinger formed World Party in 1986 after he left The Waterboys. He is pretty much the sole member of the band. On this, his 4th release from 1997 a drummer plays on about half the tracks with Waterboy bandmate Anthony Thistlethwaite playing sax on one. It came with another CD of their best songs that was in a separate cover that I was going to listen to but I could not find it. I have never played this CD before so here goes. Songs are from several different styles. “It Is Time” and “Vanity Fair” have a 60’s Pop sound. “Strange Groove” is a Funk/Soul number. “Peace Of Mind” has a more R & B or Soul sound. “This World” is one I’m sure I heard somewhere before. Wallinger does his best Bob Dylan on “Curse Of The Mummy’s Tomb”. “Love Is Best” is a nice mellow song that will go on my playlist. “Always” is another catchy song. Wallinger suffered a brain Aneurysm in 2001. After five years he resumed some touring for ten years. He died of a stroke in 2024.
