Wolfstone-Seven

A band from Scotland playing traditional and traditional sounding Folk Rock music. Their seventh release from 1999. The band had split up a year earlier but were contracted for one more album on Green Linnet Records, so some members got back together to record this CD. They employ the usual Rock instrumentation of guitar, bass, drums and keyboards but add fiddle and Highland pipes and whistles. 7 of the 11 tracks are instrumental. “Psycho Woman” has some good electric guitar while Jen’s Tune is a mellow song with fiddle and pipe. “John Simmers” is a short piano solo. Of the songs with vocals “Brave Boys” is good, making use of a Hammond organ. “Black Dog” ( not the Led Zeppelin song) has a fun chorus. “Crowfeathers” is another one I liked. After the success of this CD the band put out two more records on a different label.
