Victoria Williams-This Moment In Toronto

A live CD recorded in Toronto in 1995. I first heard her music when I bought the tribute album Sweet Relief on cassette. Artists covered her songs to help raise money for her health care after she was diagnosed with M.S. Some songs from that release are on my playlist. Certainly one of my favorite tribute albums .She sings in a high girlish voice that I don’t particularly but despite that I have 2 more of her CDs and had one or two cassettes. Victoria plays several of her songs from that tribute in this concert namely “This Moment”, “Crazy Mary”, “Frying Pan” and “Summer Of Drugs”. All good songs but I like the covers better as done by Matthew Sweet, Pearl Jam. Evan Dando and Soul Asylum. “Polish Those Shoes” and “Lights” were also ones I liked. She covers the standard “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes” and sings a bit of “Dear Prudence”. The band includes Joey Burns on upright bass, of Giant Sand. who Victoria has worked with before and Andrew and David Williams. Not sure of the relation, possibly brothers. It was a nice 70 minute concert and I enjoyed listening to it. She has been married to Peter Case of The Plimsouls and Mark Olson of the Jayhawks. Her last release was in 2002, a collection of standards.
