Twinemen is a band comprising members of two Boston area bands. Singer and guitarist Laurie Sargent and bassist Stuart Kimball are from Face to Face who were active in the 80’s. Sax player Dana Colley and drummer Billy Conway were from Morphine. The band was formed after the death of Mark Sandman, the leader of Morphine, who died of a heart attack while performing in Italy in 1999. The name Twinemen comes from a comic strip Sandman wrote. Another release from Kufala Recordings of authorized bootlegs. Recorded at The Knitting Factory in 2003 they play originals and some Morphine covers. There is a bit of improvisation, mostly from Colley’s sax. “Top Floor, Bottom Buzzer” is one of my favorite Morphine songs and the original is on my playlist. Another Morphine song “11:00” features guest Jim Mankey of Concrete Blond on guitar. “Little By Little” is another one I liked with some great soloing by Colley. They put out three records from 2002 to 2007.
