The The is Matt Johnson of London. This is another compilation of singles from 2002. These tracks are from the years 1982 to 2000 with two new ones recorded in 2002. I had five of his releases on cassette and 2000’s Naked Self on CD. I remember a DJ commenting in 1980 that they must have run out of names because there was a new band called The The. Many guest musicians have played on his albums with an actual band at one point featuring The Smith’s Johnny Marr. “Uncertain Smile” is a good one as is “Sweet Bird Of Truth” although this is a new mix and edit that I didn’t like. The best track on here is “Love Is Stronger Than Death” from his Dusk album. “Heartland” from Infected is also good. “I Saw The Light” is from Hanky Panky his Hank Williams tribute album. After 24 years he put out a new album in 2024.
