Sweetback are the three musicians who back up Sade. This is their first release from 1996. They put out one more in 2004. About half the tracks contain vocals the others are instrumental. A variety of styles from Smooth Jazz: “Gaze” New Age: “Cloud People”, Dub: “Come Dubbing” and “Sensations”, Rap/Hip Hop: “Au Natural” and Soul: “You Will Rise”. “Walk Of Ju” is a solo piece by Stuart Matthewman with a bit of electronics. “Hope She’ll Be Happier” is a Bill Withers song. My favorite is the Soulful “You Will Rise with vocals by Amel Larrieux Of Grove Theory. Her vocals can be compared to Sade and that will go on my playlist.
