Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros-Global A Go-Go

The second release by Joe Strummer and his band. This came out in 2001. They were working on a third album when Strummer died in 2002 from a heart attack at age 50. This is a really good CD with two great songs “Johnny Appleseed” and “Cool ‘N’ Out” both on my playlist. Some World Music elements are in “Global A Go-Go” and “Bhindi Bhagee”. “Gamma Ray”, Bummed Out City” and “Mega Bottle Ride” are other ones I liked. The last track “Minstrel Boy” is a nearly 18 minute interpretation of a traditional song credited to Ireland’s Thomas Moore. It’s a nice mellow piece with acoustic guitar, organ, violin and subdued percussion and snare drum. Along with Mick Jones, Strummer was one of the writers and singers for The Clash who had many great songs.
