Steel Pole Bath Tub-Lurch/Butterfly Love

A band formed in Montana before moving to Seattle and eventually San Francisco. This is their first release paired with an EP from 1990. Another one of the first CDs I bought and one like My Dad Is Dead that I always told myself I would listen to later. Composed of singer/guitarist Mike Morasky and bassist/singer Dale Flattum, no sure if that’s a man or woman but vocals sound like a woman, and drummer Darren Mor-X. Butterfly Love, their first release with the picture of Marcia Brady, is only 32 minutes long. While watching reruns of The Brady Bunch I noticed the Butterfly Love poster on her bedroom wall. The EP Lurch was released a year later and is 27 minutes long. Interesting music and could be described as Punk Rock/ Hard Rock/Grunge/Alternative/Heavy Metal and Noise Rock. Many tracks have found sounds and samples from TV shows and movies. A typical example is the first song from Lurch, “Christina” that starts as a Punk song before turning into 6 minutes of Noise, someone screaming and other sounds. “Hey You” has some heavy riffs and Lurch closes with a fast cover of Sabbath’s “Paranoid”. The songs on Butterfly love are mostly fast Hard Rock songs loke “I Am Sam I Am”, “Swerve: and ‘Through The Windshield”. “Bee Sting” and “Tear It Apart” have some breaks with some noise. “Heaven On Dirt” has a somewhat Doom Metal sound. Perhaps comparable to Sonic Youth or Royal Truxx. On Boner records of San Francisco there has been no vinyl release yet. Some songs will go on my playlist. Released a few more albums after this with many singles and compilation/tribute songs . Morasky and Flattum are also involved in the band Milk Cult.

somewhat Doom Metal sound.
