Royal Trux-Sweet Sixteen

Their sixth release from 1997 with one of the most disgusting covers I have seen. I don’t know what’s in that toilet and I’m sure I don’t want to know. Despite that this is my favorite Royal Trux CD. More good 70’s rock with some added synthesizers, horns and violin on a couple tracks. Good guitar by Hagerty who also does more singing than on the last CD. “Morphic Resident” is a standout. “Cold Joint” sounding a bit like The Black Crowes has a Lenny Bruce sample repeated over and over. “Roswell Stems And Seeds” has an early 60’s vibe with a bong hit and cough at the end. The second release on Virgin Records and their last as they were dropped after this one. They went back to Indie record company Drag City for their next releases. This is the only one of theirs that hasn’t been reissued on vinyl and the only one I would want.
