The Recipe-Geode

A band from West Virginia. I saw them play at a small festival called Hexfest held at Hex Hollow Farm in Barto owned by Steve Walker, a fairly well know guitarist in Berks county. A 2 day affair, I went to two of them in the early 2000’s. While most people were camping in the woods and fields of his farm I intended to leave Friday night. Unfortunately I locked my keys in the car and had to use Mr. Walker’s phone to call my wife to pick me up. Since the farm was down a dirt road and my wife would never find it in the dark I had to walk about three miles to the Barto Hotel for her to pick me up there. The next year I went my car was blocked in and I couldn’t leave and had to sleep in my car. Despite those problems I did hear some good music by The Juggling Suns playing Grateful Dead songs, two guys from Rusted Root, The Recipe and other local bands. I saw this used CD at the store in Exeter and bought it a few years later. I remember them having a more Jam Band sound but most of the songs on here I would call Country. They are OK but three songs sound more like what I heard live. “Pinwheel”, “For Houdini” and the 9 and a half minute “The Seed” are all songs that sound more like what they played at Hexfest.
