Psychic TV-Origin Of The Species

Origin Of The Species is a compilation CD. There are six CDs in this series that came in three double CD packages that also came with a 32 page booklet. This is the first set from 1998. I also have the second set called Origin of the Species Too. Both bought at Borders. I never did see the third set. I must admit that I have never put these on before. I listened to disc one today. Unlike yesterday’s CD that was more Ambient and Chill-Out music these tracks from ’87 to ’92 are all Acid House, Techno or EDM and are all danceable. Not too different from Orb. Lots of cool electronics and vocals from Genesis P-Orridge( born Neil Megson} with samples of other voices. I liked listening to all of it. A live version of I.C. Water, a tribute to Ian Curtis was what I liked best. The booklet has many photos, an essay about the band written by Francis Pinkienicker and the origin of the tracks written by P-Orridge. There is also a long account (6 pages) of his relationship with Ian Curtis of Joy Division telling how Curtis called him the night before his suicide. P-Orridge attempted suicide on stage one night but failed. He was a strange guy but made some interesting music with Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV. P-Orridge died from leukaemia at age 70.
