Sam Prekop is in the band The Sea and Cake. This is his first solo release from 1999. Members of that band, Archer Prewitt and John McEntire, who is also in Tortoise, play on this CD. It is produced by Jim O’Rourke, who later was in Sonic Youth. He plays a variety of instruments throughout the CD. The music is laid back and mellow with Prekop’s low key vocals. Some songs have a touch of Jazz in them. A couple songs feature some strings. There are three instrumentals. All tracks sound OK but nothing exceptional. This is on Chicago’s Thrill Jockey label the home of The Sea and Cake and Tortoise. I do have on Sea and Cake CD as well as a couple by Tortoise. I guess I will be listening to them soon.
