I had six of three Live Phish CDs that came in the vinyl notebook packages with the vinyl pockets for the CDs. They could be folded up to fit in the cardboard slipcases or unfolded put in a 3 ring binder. Unfortunately after time the vinyl reacted with the CDs and left a sticky gooey mess on the CDs, mainly on the label side. After trying to clean them with a cloth some spots on the label side would not clean up and you could see it on the other side of the CD. Looks like it ate through the CD destroying the data, making them unplayable. This is the only one of the six that didn’t happen to. After washing the CDs with dishwashing detergent they played fine. These 4 CDs were recorded Halloween night in 1995. This was early in their career and there was still a bit of noodling going on. They would get more refined as the years went by with much better jams. That being said this 4 hour show has some good moments. The first set (nearly 90 minutes) features “The Divided Sky” from their first album and “Run Like An Antelope” from the second both with good jams. Trey narrates a story in “Harpua” a song only played live, one I didn’t really like. In the second set they play the Who’s Quadrophenia in its entirety. The majority of this is on disc three which I didn’t listen to. The first six songs from Quadrophenia are on disc two. They sound OK but Trey’s voice is no match for Daltrey’s. Disc four has their third set (70 minutes) with 40 minutes of “You Enjoy Yourself”. Going through many different sections the last seven minutes are the band members singing some a Capella voice exercises. This is followed by Z Z Top’s “Jesus Just Left Chicago”, The Beatles “A Day In The Life”, “Suzy Greenburg” and finally an encore of “My Generation”. I still prefer the later Phish than the earlier recordings but I was happy to be able to save one of these CDs. The other five had to be trashed.
