Pavement were a band from California, active in the 90’s. This CD is a compilation of three EPs from the early 90’s and a three song single. They play short Indie and Lo-Fi songs with a good bit of distortion. Not unlike Guided By Voices they play guitar oriented songs with some good hooks. Many are just plain strange. Two of their best known songs are on here. “Box Elder” was on their first EP Slay Tracks. “Summer Babe” was their first single. It later appeared on their first LP Slanted and Enchanted with the title “Summer Babe(Winter Version)” with a slightly different mix and vocals and became the most well known version.:My First Mine” another good song is from a compilation album. After their break-up in ’99 guitarist Stephen Malkmus went solo and with his own band The Jicks. Bassist Mark Ibold later joined Sonic Youth for the last few years before they broke up.
